Four Real Agrado wines receive an excellent rating in the 2021 edition of the Peñín Guide

Premios Real Agrado. Guía Peñin 2021

Roots, Terroir and Passion. These are the hallmarks of Real Agrado Wines. The winery, which is part of El Gaitero Group, boasts a prime location in the east of La Rioja, and produces wines exclusively from its 100 hectares of vineyards. The result are impeccably balanced wines of unique character.

The prestigious Peñín Guide to Spanish Wines has once again acknowledged the quality of Real Agrado Wines and its 2021 edition features four wines, each scoring more than 90 points.

Indeed, the Parcela La Lobera 2010 and Canterabuey 2017 wines scored 91 and 92 points respectively.

In turn, VA! 2019 received 90 points and four stars.

Finally, and particularly worthy of mention, is the Real Agrado Crianza 2017, which received 90 points and five stars (the maximum rating in terms of value for money), an usual achievement for crianza vintage wines.

A passion for wine and its culture are the guiding principles of the Peñín Guide whose aim, as the authors explain, is to promote Spanish wineries and wines. Each year, its professionals taste more than 11,500 labels and it has become the most popular handbook among amateurs and professionals.

About Real Agrado wines

Real Agrado Crianza 2017

Grape varieties: garnacha and tempranillo.

Barrel aging: 12 months, mainly in American oak barrels and to a lesser extent, French oak barrels.

Tasting notes: Ruby-red with violet and purple hues. It is lively, clean and brilliant. Deeply intense in colour. Aromas of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. Notes of anis and well-integrated oak, creating an excellent balance. A delightfully mild, fresh attack, whilst the midpalate is a fine balance between wood and fruit with a touch of tannicity, spicy and fulsome. The finish is rather sweet, lingering and elegant.

Canterabuey 2017

This is the first wine to be included in the Viñedo Singular category of the DOC La Rioja.

Grape variety: garnacha.

Barrel aging: 16 months in American and French oak.

Tasting notes: deep clean maroon tone. An aroma of abundant ripe blackberries and redcurrants, rounded off with spicy hints and elegant roasted notes from the barrel aging. Powerful and structured in the mouth, where the wood blends to perfection with the fruit.

La Lobera 2010

Grape varieties: graciano, tempranillo, garnacha and mazuelo.

Barrel aging: 16 months in American and French oak. The wine is racked every four months.

Tasting notes: crimson red and cherry red with a top layer. Abundant legs in the glass. Intensely mild and delicate aromas. Peach compote and red berries, balsamic vinegar, cinnamon wafer, bringing out the full complexity of its myriad hues and spicy tones. Racy and unctuous in the attack, giving way to an intense and lingering mid-palate.

VA! 2019

This wine is made using the carbonic maceration technique and is suitable for vegans.

Grape variety: tempranillo.

Production process: The winemaking process is applied to whole grapes, resulting in wines with a unique character that stand out for their fruity aromas and smooth unctuosity in the mouth. The aim is to minimise handling, applying rituals that will produce natural expressions. The grapes are harvested manually with meticulous care and following a painstaking selection process, before being transported whole to the winery. The entire bunch is unloaded in the tanks where the fermentation and production processes unfold.

Tasting notes: purple with mauve tones with an average to high intensity; lively and brilliant. Aromas of blackberries and raspberries. Voluptuous and delicate, it has a zesty flavour. Glycerine, rounded and fulsome flavour. A hint of raspberry, blackberry, milky hints and liquorice.
